Top 5 Spring Cleaning Tips for a Happier Life
Dan Levenson April 19, 2021
After a turbulent winter must come a healing spring. Take this energy into your life going forward and make the new season a time to get your house in order — literally. If you’ve been neglecting your home responsibilities, this is as good a time as any to change that. Here are our top five spring cleaning tips for a happier life.
1. Make a Plan
Spring cleaning seems like a simple enough task right up to the point where you actually start to do it. While getting up to clean here and there can help, a major cleaning needs some preparation. Take the time to make a plan of what you need to clean, what kind of supplies you’ll need, and how long it might take to get a better sense of what needs doing for an effective house cleaning. It might seem like a hassle, but staying on track lessens the chance you’ll be interrupted with other issues and end up walking away from the cleaning for weeks or months on end.
2. Take Things Room by Room
As tempting as it may be to try and attack everything all at once, a much better strategy for an effective clean is to move room by room. This gives you a better chance of staying on task as you clean, plus it makes checklists more effective (marking off “cleaned the windows” for every room versus the whole house means less forgetting).
3. Set New Habits
Keeping your house clean throughout the year should be one of the main goals of spring cleaning. Use the things you do during your cleaning to motivate you into keeping new cleaning habits. Handling household chores more frequently and cleaning more effectively the rest of the time will make a much happier and healthier house even when you aren’t deep cleaning at the start of the new year.
4. Remember the Crevices
There’s a ton of dirt, dust, and debris that collects in the tiny crevices all-around your home. It can be difficult to reach these spaces, but a truly good cleaning requires that it be done. Even if these details seem largely unnecessary given that they aren’t spaces people can see, these dark and dingy spots of the house are great for breeding pests. This is especially true if they’re someplace food tends to fall, like a gap between the refrigerator and countertop. Make the extra effort and get to cleaning them out.
5. Include the Car
While it’s not a part of your home in the literal sense, your car is just as important to your life and deserves a nice cleaning. Vacuum up old food, brush out the carpets, and give it a nice wash to complete your all-over spring cleaning. This is also a good time for a tune-up, ensuring your car runs as good as it looks. Freshening up the car is nice if only because going from your newly clean house to an old, dirty car is a real drag in the day-to-day. It also helps keep your house cleaner for longer as you won’t be tracking in a bunch of old grime from your car floor whenever you get home.
Spring cleaning is a rewarding if somewhat arduous process. Try out these five cleaning tips to help improve your cleaning abilities to create a happier home and better life for yourself and others.
